Guidelines for Young Clergy

Our church, Maharajanagart

  1. Be Punctual
  2. Be Clean – Keep the church Clean. Keep your face Clean, Wear dress( Cassock) neatly
  3. Be respectful
  4. Be humble
  5. Be Patient, Be Listening, Be flexible
  6. Try to live a simple life but neat
  7. Try to help the senior Pastor in all the activities (Don’t say No or  Can’t at any cause)
  8. Keep all records perfectly, currently ( Baptism, Marriage, death, Inventory note etc)
  9. Maintain daily cash book – personal diary
  10. Try to Learn church accounts
  11. Avoid using cell phones inside the church. Please keep it in home.
  12. Try to speak decently- use good words- Arrange P.A system perfectly
  13. Keep yourself clean- use body spray in order to avoid body odour
  14. Read books regularly ( Magazines, News papers etc)
  15. Eat less in outsides / Drink more water.
  16. Always keep distance with the opposite sex people.
  17. Give receipt for all offertories, or money you are receiving.
  18. Don’t expect anything personally from rich people- you will become his slave.
  19. Don’t get angry easily. It will be the strength of your enemy.
  20. Availability and accountability are the important qualities for a pastor.
  21. Reading style must be improved- Slowly , clearly, understandably
  22. Holy Communion Service- Singing Service must be practiced
  23. Marriage service – Solemnize prayerfully and reverently – Announcement should be made for

  • Crackers
  • Cell phone switch off

  • Sunday school
  • Youth meeting
  • Men’s fellowship

  3. Baptism service – Teach the congregation about the church discipline

  7. Use your talents, Potentiality completely for the glory of God.
  8. Keep all the worship books perfectly prior to the worship

 

 

  1. Make all necessary arrangements for Holy communion service

(a)   Purificator – wash regularly

(b)   Chalice – must clean perfectly

(c)    Paten

(d)   Spoon

(e)   Water, Vine, Wafers etc

  1. Must have regular house visit (Sick, Birth day, Wedding day etc)
  2. Give more importance for sermon preparation and preaching
  3. Be present in all worship services in your appointed church.
  4. Don’t allow lay preachers in our regular main services. Pulpit is for ordain people only.
  5. Must know about the canonical order;

  1. Be attentive in all worship services, make notes of sermon – avoid sleeping/ Laziness/ closing eyes etc
  2. In Holy Communion service, when we are there we should not allow cup bearer or catechists to prepare communion elements – That is purely the work of the ordained minister. We are there to do that work. This is very important.

  • Baptismal Font            –           Used in the administration of Baptism
  • Altar                            –           For the celebration of Holy Communion.
  • Pulpit                           –           For preaching the Word of God
  • Chancel                       –           the place for choir
  • Credence                     –           It is the table at which the elements are prepared.
  • Book desk                    –           Keeping the worship books in the altar table
  • Litany desk                  –           For intercessory prayers
  • Lectern                        –           For reading the lessons

(a)    Paten                            –    A thin disk of gold or silver gilt on which the altar breads are placed for consecration.

(b)   Ciborium                     –    A kind of shallow cup or chalice with a cover to it. It is also used for keeping breads.

(c)    Chalice                         –    The sacramental cup in which the wine is consecrated.

(d)   Chalice veil                –    It is a cloth used for covering the chalice when empty.

(e)   Corporal                      –    A napkin of fine linen spread on the altar at the time of the Eucharist service. The chalice is placed on the centre of it and the paten in front of the chalice.

(f)     Burse                            –    The burse is a kind of pocket, so arranged as to open at the end. In the pocket so formed the corporals and pall are kept when not in use. It is brought in on the top of the veiled chalice and when empty during the celebration stands upright against the re-table.

(g)    Cruets                           –    It is a vessel which contains the wine to be used for the celebration of the Eucharist.

(h)   Spoons                         –    Two spoons are frequently used for mixing and removing a fly or other impurity.

(i)      Pyx                                 –    A metal container in which the altar breads are kept till required for use.

(j)     Bason and napkin    –    For washing of the priest’s hands.

 

Ornaments of the minister

  • What is cassock?  The cassock is a long coat buttoning over the breast and reaching to the feet. It is confined at the waist by a broad sash called cincture. The collar is made to fasten right round the throat. The Cassock which entirely hides the ordinary dress is representing of the spirit of recollection and devotion which becomes those who serve in the sanctuary.
  •  What is surplice? A vestment of linen, shorter and fuller than the cassock. The arms are of considerable width at the wrists and there is an aperture at the neck of sufficient size to enable the wearer to pass it over his head. The surplice represents the innocence of life and purity of heart without which our service will not be acceptable to God. Those who occupy it as being more directly engaged in the services of God are clothed in fine linen which as representing the righteousness of Saints (Rev: 19:8). This dress coat is the distinguishing mark of all engaged in God’s service.
  • What is the Stole? A narrow strip of silk passed over the neck and hanging in front to about the knees of the wearer. It is usually ornamented with a cross at the neck and at either extremity. The ends are slightly expanded and fringed. It varies in colour with the season.
  • What is girdle? A white cord used to confine the alb at the waist. It representing of the work of the Lord; to perform which the sacred ministers gird up as it were their loins.
